How to switch card machine provider

To switch card machine provider without losing a day's takings, you need three things: your contract terms, a planned date and someone to handle the paperwork. Here's the checklist.

The checklist

  1. Find your agreement. Look for the contract end date, notice period and any exit or early termination fee.
  2. Get one month's statement. This shows what you really pay and is what any new offer should be compared with.
  3. Compare blended rates, not headline rates. See card fees explained.
  4. Check rented equipment. Rented machines usually go back to the old provider. Ask how and when.
  5. Apply with the new provider before you give notice, so nothing is left in limbo.
  6. Set up and test the new machine while the old one still works.
  7. Give notice in writing to the old provider, within the notice period.
  8. Update anything linked: your till integration, online checkout and payment links.

What I do for you

I handle the paperwork and the notice to your old provider, and I time it so you are never without a working card machine.

I come to your business to set up the new machine and check it takes a payment before I leave. If an exit fee makes switching pointless right now, I'll tell you and diarise your renewal date instead.

Renewal quotes are often higher than what a new customer would be offered. If your contract is coming up, it's the best moment to get your statement checked.

HOW IT WORKS

Three steps. I do the paperwork.

  1. Send your statement.

Upload it or snap a photo. It takes two minutes.

  2. I compare the market.

I check your rates against my partner providers and show you the difference in plain English.

  3. I handle the switch.

If you want to move, I deal with the paperwork and the notice to your old provider, with no downtime.

How long does a switch take?

Usually days, not weeks, once the new account is approved. I time it so your old machine stays live until the new one works.

Do I need to tell my old provider?

Yes, in writing, within your notice period. I handle that for you.
