Work out your card fees

Enter your own figures from last month's statement. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

Work out your current card fees

Use the effective rate on your statement. This estimates your current cost using only the numbers you enter.

Only add fixed fees if they are not already included in your effective rate.

Monthly cost = card takings × effective rate ÷ 100 + fixed fees. Multiply by 12 for the yearly cost.

Where to find the numbers

  • Monthly card takings: the total value of card payments in the month, usually near the top of the statement.
  • Your rate: if you have several rates, divide your total fees by your card takings and use that single figure.
  • Monthly fixed fees: rental, PCI, minimum service charge and any other flat monthly charges.

What to do with the result

Now you know what card payments cost you each year. The next question is whether that's fair for a business like yours. That depends on your card mix and terms, so I won't guess a saving here. Send me the statement and I'll give you a real answer in writing within 24 hours.

QUESTIONS

Questions

Where do I find my rate?

On your monthly statement. If you have several rates (debit, credit, business cards), divide the total fees by your total card takings to get one blended figure.

Why doesn't the calculator show a saving?

Because a saving depends on your card mix and your terms, and I won't guess. Send me the statement and I'll work out a real figure for your business.

Is my data stored?

No. The calculator runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere.
